I just got this in change yesterday and know nothing about grading nickels. It looks to be in pretty good shape for its age. What say ye oh nickel experts(and non experts with a rational opinion)?

I'm guessing you scanned it - so it's probably 'shinier" than the pics. I would lean towards VF - I don't like the gunk on the back, but details are quite good.

I think this coin is VF20. All four pillars in Monticello are complete. While the pillars are generally accepted as the one grading point on these, I also look at the hair detail in Jefferson. The detail on yours definitely falls into what I feel would be VF. Your rims are complete and sharp also. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. It is always instructive o hear what others "see" in a coin and how it affects grade evaluation.
