Came across this on ebay and I'm just really curious as to what the leaf/branch stamps/imprints on the obverse and reverse mean? I've tried doing some research on it but found nothing. As well, counterstamped with a date of 1867 on the reverse. The SLD itself has nice surfaces and looks XF in grade.

It can mean whatever you want it to mean. Like HoBo nickel's, it's customized art work from the originator. If the coin is real "which I question" it's damaged, vandalized and defaced. Message the seller, he might know the history of the coin.

I would stay far away from it. A damaged coin will always be a damaged coin.

Agreed. However if this coin was at like $100/150 I would've considered it. After all, it's still an XF details 1863.

This has been disfigured beyond any plausible degree of attraction to a thoughtful collector. The term "details" hardly does justice.

Yeah but in 1867 it was just a dollar, nothing special, and it was still worth a buck after he did that.

Yeah but you're assuming it was done in 1867, Raymo. There's no way to know that from pictures and you probably couldn't tell even if you viewed it inhand. If might of been done to cover up other flaws.

It looks like silversmith or jeweler flatware initialing and bright cutting. Nicely done.

Who knows why they did it on a coin. Folk art at best.

If it was they should have left it alone. The other flaws probably weren't as bad as what they ended up with.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am not that beholder. Even the engraving is not that good.

I have a gut feel neither the coin nor the engraving is what they pretend to be.

Not for everyone but I like it. It appears to be a period piece and as a Civil War date it is very desirable. A nicely engraved 1867 and some deeply engraved other areas that match quite well. All of this on a nice AU coin. You might be surprised at what it sells for.
