*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***Lets just all agree that this coin looks like butt. But, we can also probably agree that there is also a lot of detail underneath all of that crud. I'm not sure if it is salvageable, but it is a legit VDB. Edited by Jadey 12/08/2018 10:11 pm

I have added it (again), but you should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

I am not sure there is a remedy for fire damage. Looks burnt.

@Fuzzy317 I do apologize. I made some assumptions with the modern coins and "1909 VDB". I had posted my second topic before seeing your comment on the first. I will try to be more diligent on my topics.

I'd try a long acetone soak to see if it improves any. No guarantees.

I say my coin looks like butt, and you recommend acetone? Is that a pun? Are you poking fun at me?

Does not seem salvageable to me. And certainly not worth the effort for a $5-$10 coin at best.

Maybe I will just scratch an S into the soot below the date, and put it in a Dansco Album. Kill two birds with one stone. It'll save me a bundle of money.

It's a goner, I've tried to conserve quite a few coins that looked like this. You can help it a little but it will be obviously cleaned. Here's a 1910 I worked on for a few weeks. You could barely see the date when I started:

I wouldn't waste my time trying to salvage this coin. You can buy a nice example of this for under $10. Now if you just want to hone your conservation skills then I say have at it.
