I found this coin today that appears to have been gilded in gold at some point. Only apparent on the bottom reverse. Does anybody have any knowledge or experience with this?

Buried coin, looks to have probably been found long ago, cleaned and then it re-browned over time. As corroded and cleaned coins go, this one really isn't that bad.

As far as what you see on the surface, that's irrelevant at this point. The coin is what it is and it will always be - unless someone foolishly tries to clean it again. At that point, it'd be a slug.
