Die chip in Liberty in not unusual. Can't tell about the mintmark from the photos. It looks to be just die wear but a close up of the mintmark straight on may show something different.

My guess is Die chip in the B of LIBERTY and die wear on the D. The reason I say die wear instead of die doubling is I see no evidence of separation or notching where there should be. The metal associated with the doubling also has a very gradual incline over its spread which I would think results from die wear. I would expect a much more sharp if not vertical incline for a true repunched mint mark - especially as it enters the field.

1959D-1MM-009 : D/D/D/D North, South, and South. Somewhat common, worth $5-$8 or so in BU. Still a nice RPM for what it's worth.

coppercoins - I would expect that if the coin was repunched with the mintmark twice to the south, that you would see the top of those repunched 'D's inside the primary mark. However, when I look at the photos of that variety on coppercoins, there are nothing there. Why would the northeast part of those repunched D's not show inside the primary D?

There are a number of repunched mintmarks where parts of the secondary mintmark are strong and other parts barely visible or not there at all. My only offering as to a reason for this would be that either the punch was tilted so that the secondary areas were only partially punched (like this one) or that the die was polished after the secondary was punched in at a slight tilt and the polishing removed part of the secondary punching.
