Hello members
I'm new to this forum. I've been accumulating coins for many years and have grown to appreciate Canada's pre confederation tokens and all foreign coins used before we had our own coins here in Canada
I get my coins from several places, primarily now I get them by finding some with a metal detector
I stumbled across this site in a recent search while researching some early tokens and thought this might be a good place to gather and share information.

I would like to know what the collecting community feels about coins found underground and underwater....I'm very open to you thoughts and comments about environmental damage to coins etc..

I look forward to seeing your posts and hope to learn a little more from you all

Welcome fellow token collector!

While I focus on collecting mainly the highest grade coins I can find, I also have been bitten by the metal detector bug (there is a sub forum on CCF for detectors, although it doesn't see all that much traffic)

I don't need to tell you that there is a certain rush when your get a report on your machine, followed up by digging up yet another nail or pull tab lol. But man, when you hit something nice (jewelry or a coin) there is nothing else like it.

Environmental damage can kill the value of a coin (by about 90%), but there is still something to be said about pulling something out of the ground that fell out of someone's pocket 100, 150, 200 years ago.

This is a fantastic community, please stick around and share your finds & ask your questions.

I appreciate the welcome to this forum from all of you.

to John1: I've participated in many detecting forums over the years, still hang around a few but I am not as active as I once was, I'll give it a look for sure!

to TNG: I wouldn't even know where to begin, I have a big collection but it's not as organized as it could be, but over time I'll get it managed and show you some of the results...if there's something specific you'd care to see, take a shot and ask away,I just might have it lol!

to Wade: I'm glad there's someone else who is aware of the challenges of making a collection from sometimes less desirable condition coins as is the case with many dug coins...I started out looking mainly for coins but shifted focus to relics over the years and now coins are an awesome biproduct of searching for them, but it is always great to find something you've never seen before and have as a prize in your collection.
I am so aware of the value of low grade coins and those affected by corrosion from the elements in soils, it's the risk I take but it pays off in the way that the coins come to me basically for my time that I put into searching for them so my investment isn't a huge monetary one, it's a decent trade lol!

Everyone collects for different reasons, and everyone collects something different...I'm looking forward to seeing seeing some interesting coins an sharing the ones I have found and particating in discussions around them
