There is quite a bit of happenings on this coin.

This is what I think is going on... But would love to hear what you all have to say!

OBV:

little L on LIBERTY

Die Crack across "We Trust"

REV:

Die clash - in columns on both sides

Noted very heavy polish lines to remove clash and columns are very thinned down around clash... clash was hard to see from some light angles, but hopefully I captured them here.

Sorry for the not so great photos I took them last night without a good light source... :P

Thanks!

I review I think it clashed 2x on reverse...
(not sure the term to use - I remember it is not double die clash...LOL)

Also... maybe I am seeing things - but slight doubling? on liberty ("RTY")....possibly (heavy) date?

Maybe has something to do with the other events going on on the coin. I assume they all developed from the clash...

I think it may have been a polished over die clash that left a few minor gouges.

1. The small 'L' is from die over polishing. (Must have been some kind of die event on that side of the die area, possible die damage. Usually polishing is used to remove a clash)
2. The marks in the motto could be two things, just can't tell from the images provided. If the marks do not go over the tops of the devices, they are die scratches that flow behind the devices. Or, if the lines flow over the devices, they are die cracks. (just can't tell from the images which)
3. I see a little evidence of a clash.

Looks like the die has is showing a lot of abrasion. Nothing there to keep really. People save things and then later spends them. But that is up to you.

This must have been a clash to both sides... and yes they were polishing it out.

I will have to try to take some better pictures. Sorry about that!

REV Column 3, 8 & 9 I see the clash.

*edited* Also just noticed the bar coming off Lincolns chin on the OBV might be remnant of column clash... I will have to give a better look.

As far as what I thought was die crack on OBV flows under device... so die scratch... so I guess that is just polishing too?

Well probably not polishing, but probably happened when the die was polished. They are call die gouges. Lets say a piece of sand was on the table and the die was slid across the table. The fields are the outside face of the die. So it made gouges on that area. Die cracks flow over the devices.

What does a die crack look like on a die:

As the die continues to spread the crack will get larger and sometimes it can break off and make a Cud:

Then retired.

Ok tried taking better images... there was infact a die clash and it was polished away, but still is there. Very heavy die scratching on the coin for sure! On the OBV the chin mark was just a huge scratch...btw.

So I am guessing no bonus points, even though columns and bays are all messed up from the polishing...? (bays mis-shapen and columns thinned)

So just wondering from what you were saying Coop... this wouldn't be labeled a "clash" since it there was an attempt to polish it?

Interesting find Eye4Error! On the reverse, that sure looks like a Die Clash to me.
