I found this gold colored medallion/necklace/pendant at a local garage sale. I cannot find another for reference. The only lettering is the word freedom on one side. I'm not sure of it's composition although it appears to be maybe brass? It weighs 21.3 grams. It is 1.25 inches across and about twice the thickness of a regular US quarter. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

@captainbipto, first welcome to CCF. Second that is a very interesting piece that you have there. Unfortunately, I'm striking out in finding a match. I see that the pendant loop appears to be aftermarket, so this piece probably started off without that feature. It appears to have some real heft to it. Maybe an early 20th century challenge coin? I really don't know what you have there.

Hopefully, someone else here can help!

Very interesting piece! I'm sure you will be hard pressed to find another like this. Love the detail on the edge of medal.

Hello and thank you for the replies. I'm at a loss as to what this is and what period is it from. I researched challenge coins and so far nothing. Does it even have any value?

It isn't a challenge coin in what is the current definition of the terms since it has no unit or ranking. It most likely a token /medal that was produced for the countries many patriotic celebrations over the years and with the attention to detail and edging lat6e 1800's early 1900's vintage. The loop appears to be added with a lead based solder, somebody liked the message and design well enough to take care in attaching it for a necklace pendent. It is worth some one is will ing to pay for it. But generally it is worth a couple of dollars or a higher price and then place in the 50% off bin or bargain box. You mostly see necklace pendents, key fob dangles with a hole crudely drilled in them.

Still it is a very nice find.

The answer may be more prosaic. Freedom and Eagle motif gaming machine tokens have been in production for nearly 50 years. Very common in Europe for some strange reason. This sounds as if it might be a dollar substitute for some kind of slot machine. More recent tokens have freedom and the eagle on the same side of the piece, with the reverse stating "no cash value" or similar. Older examples do look much like the OPs, although I've never encountered one of thai size.
