Recently purchased for my Lincoln album is this 1914-D. Looks to be a metal detector find as it is badly corroded. Surprisingly, all the details of an XF/AU coin are evident under the corrosion. This must have been a beautiful coin when it fell into the ground, thus the strong details. Numismedia puts this coin $900 in XF40, $216 in G04. I purchased for remaining details. I paid $120. 1914-D-Lincoln-Cent-Corroded.-Filler. 1914-D-Lincoln-Cent-Corroded.-Filler.

For my Two Cents worth, leave as it is, a beautiful coin in it's natural state of 94 years. If I was that old I would be a little bit damaged too.

"Problem Free" this ain't !........

But, I think all you could do is stop further corrosion.....you're not going to improve this coin much unless you can magically add metal to it that has corroded away !
That being said.....you have a "key" cent that you didn't have to pay top dollar for and can enjoy that fact....

Thanks guys. I have been at this game for quite a while and WILL leave as is. I am all for leaving a coin in its natural state. eaglefoot, I actually thought about the further corrosion thing since this one is pretty corroded.I wish this coin could talk! I would love to see what it would have to say. I really like it for that fact. Like I said, right now I have it in a Dansco album of raw cents.

If the brown is as even as it appears in the pics, it has probably already been messed with, i.e. recolored. Corrosion that severe should result in discoloration of the coin. However, it does not appear that the corrosion is active so that is a good thing for you. I would concur with the premise of it being a metal detector find.

From the way it looks I think it has already had the olive oil treatment.

It pains me to look at, poor Abe! It's definately been cleaned, it must have really been coated with verdigris to have corrosion that bad.

You should at least put it in an airtite to stop any possible future corrosion.

I hear you BadThad, I may just send it to ANACS. Have not decided yet.
