It has been asked on the Forum before, but never heard much of a definitive answer. Which rolls would one search if hoping to find a 1960-D DDO-001 small date over large date?

This might help add a bit of information to the topic. Last weekend I was talking to a vender at a coin show who was selling these. I asked him about it and he said he found 38 of them in a set of rolls his dad had rolled from a mint bag. So here was my chance to ask the big question...were they large date or small date coins in the bag?

He said the all the coins were 1960-D small date. So, there you have it, a data point of 1 time that can be verified as this doubled die being found among small date coins not large date coins.

Excellent info TB ! Probably the only way to be sure was what type of bag they were in.
Now that that's settled, would you mind terribly, looking into that chicken or egg thing for us. ... Much appreciated there bud .

Well the listing on coppercoins calls it a small date over a large date:
1960D-1DO-001

Quote:
A small date hubbing over a large date hubbing shows in the date, LIBERTY, and in some areas of the motto. This die is also listed as 1960D-1MM-100. This die has a considerable value difference from EDS to LDS. Values given are for MDS - double the value for EDS, subtract 25% for LDS examples.

So depending on which die you are referring to, it could be either way. But ask yourself; "If he knew there were more in the rolls, don't you think he would be digging them out instead of selling them?"

Coop, the dude is the local CONECA representative and had a full scope and all set up for IDing coins for people at his booth. He was selling off the 38 DDO-001 (specifically that die) coins that he found in the rolls and had ANACS graded. Extremely reliable source on this one. He had a whole raft of ANACS attributed varieties to paw over. Best table at the show.

Information gained like this is just as credible as any other that we ourselves have not personally gathered from experience.
Does this rule out the possibility that this die could be found in a large date roll, of course not , but if you credit the account you can narrow your search.
Also, if credit be given to the account, there is only one of these dies listed above that would end up in a mint bag.
