Chances are this is just a noobie error hunting mistake. "D" is noticably lower than other same year quarters. Is this worthless/common? Any help would be appreciated. Also appologies I scanned this with a 300 dpi scanner and had to convert to upload. If a clearer pic is needed I can do my best.

to CCF. I think it is within mint tolerance. It does look a bit lower than most, but not an error and no added premium. On the plus side,it is silver!

Hello! In 1961, mint marks were hand punched. Mint mark locations will vary. I'm no expert, so don't take my word for it-but I I think it hasn't no other value other than silver melt and numismatic value. Happy hunting!

Interesting find there, like everyone else above said, its not an error, just another unusually seeming coin is all. It is silver though so I would keep it and put it in you're silver coin collection if you have one!

As CoinHunter states, MM position varied back then because of hand-punching.

with the above. I wanted to add that extreme variation in mintmark position can add value, but this is not the case here. Because the D is not touching any other design element, it falls within tolerance.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I'm learning quite a lot for day 1.. also learned scanners can make a double dye apparent but then rotating the coin and scanning again shows it's false due to how scanners work lol.

It is normal for this year - mint marks were hand punched into the dies.
