Hello!

See the below example of a 1879 S (SAF) dollar. I am getting to know my way around these guys and cant place a grade on this one. Thanks in advance!

The dark tone makes it harder to grade from the photo but my guess would be MS-64 on this one.

thanks! I can tell you there is luster behind all that toning but it is just as darkly toned in hand.

I'm thinking there's a lot of scuffing beneath that toning, so I'm at 63. Still a handsome specimen.

I think coinfrog may be correct. looks like the toning may be hiding a lot of scuffing on the obverse taking it down to MS63. its also possible this coin has seen some circulation so I grade of AU58 would not surprise me

I'm between 63 and 64 obverse. I can't tell if there is wear on the reverse, or that is just the lighting reflecting off the high points. I suspect the latter.

I really like the toning.

That is a very pretty original coin. Gulp... I'll venture on the risky side and put It into the ms category. ms-62 here.
