Hello all,

I thought I'd share my most recent experience in a private Facebook community that deals with trading and selling of Canadian coins and paper money.
This group is called (Canadian Coin & Paper Money) Auction-Sales-Trade. It is operated from what I can see 3 people. Maher Babbili, Dennis Greene, Rick Davis.

I randomly found this page while scrolling through Facebook and thought I should press the JOIN button to see what it was all about.
To my surprise, I was accepted within minutes. I quickly looked through the posting and saw some cool and interesting items up for sale and quickly picked up on the format they were using to conduct there sales or auctions. There was no visible rules posted, that I could see.
I did notice someone posting a question about, why are people writing bump in their adds. I answered the question and said, this is when your add has fallen down the page and you want it to go back to the top, so you write something in the comments and that does the trick. I then get a message from someone over seeing the site, that this page is only for auctions and sales and that they have another page for discussions. They provide the link to (Canadian Coin & Paper Money Ask, Answer and Show).
I Join as I did the previous page. Got accepted within minutes and start conversing with other member's about the new Canadian $10 and sharing our experiences trying to acquire some of the notes ect... I was very happy with the page and excited to get involved.
That night I post a coin for sale and have my troubles with the sale add option and the staff was very helpful in notifying me of my errors. Although I had to explain it too about 4-5 people all at different times, I guess this is to be expected from a Facebook page being run by more then one person. Basically, solved my issues and received a thumbs up on my modified post the next day.
I received a bid with the hour of my post and proceeded to (Bump) my add ever few hours or so.
I had remembered through my discussions about setting up your add, that the auction must end once 24hrs has passed from the last bid, so naturally I bump my add as much as possibly in the final hours to try and get more money for my coin.

The 24hrs passes and the initial bid has won my coin, so I proceed to send information to the winner and wait for there response. I then notice a angry face emoji in my add and notice its from one of the administrators. I ask them whats wrong.. They reply, look at your private messages. Where I then start to converse with this person. Here is the transcript.

*********************************************************
MB: Please remember bumps are only allowed every 8 hours and a courtesy bump in the last hour. If you don't follow the rules of the group your listing will be deleted and you might be banned. Please read the rules found pinned at the top of the page

WED 2:59 PM
ME: I see, never saw this message. Sorry for the bumps. It will not happen again

MB: Have you read the rules?
the other admins want you banned - imagine if everybody ignored the rules, the group would not function very well.

ME: no, where are the rules please so I can read them. Its your plat form, so I am at your mercy.

MB: it is a little hidden right now under announcements..

I have asked for a second chance.
;)

ME: ok, appreciate any flex for this. I will read it now. Hope I can stay on. thank you

I later tried to communicate with this person and was not able to. I guess I was blocked and I could no longer visit there page.

If you guys want to visit this page, it is pretty interesting and they have a good system, but make sure you memorize those rules. I guess I will have to find another one like it or start my own.

@TB, too bad that you seem to have had a negative experience. Maybe the admins were having a bad day, although from your description about the bumping, it sounds like you may have come on a little strong. Next time perhaps best to lurk a bit and learn from watching others. I often struggle to be patient guiding noobs on CCF etiquette.

If I can just hop up on a soapbox for a minute, I would argue that @bobby and the mods here on CCF really do an amazing job with this site. The fact that CCF is such a welcoming place day after day and year after year is a real tribute to the members here.

Yes, This site site is really well done. With so many activities going on every hour. Trulley professionals done.

As for my auction on Facebook, it was a total of 8bumps as the auction only lasted 24hrs. The bad part was that they didn't follow the allowed time between bumps. It there site and there rules, but with those strict rules and consequences, they better make it a point to direct new members to the rule section ro but a time limit of one month for new members to post.

Anyway, I am sure they know what they are doing, MAYBE guess time will be the judge.

I've got it to it with an admin on one of those coin selling groups over how much I could sell a coin for. That was my first and last attempt dealing with those places on Facebook.

Turns out the admin and his partner were dealers. They basically set it up for them to sell their coins. They don't take to kindly when others try to do it even though the page says anyone can sell.

Businesses who make it a habit to run off as many customers as possible don't tend to remain in business very long. This applies equally to "buy and sell" Facebook groups.

After all, if they kick out all the buyers for nit-picking violations of hidden rules, why would sellers stay?

And if the sellers leave because they're banned for those same violations, why would buyers sign up?

Yes, agree with everything above. I was also a member at a local coin club and got that same treatment and feeling from certain people and groups in the club. It turned out those groups or people were dealers. Sad to see it, but also very happy to be hear where there is no hidden agenda.
Thank you all for the feedback.
