Wow! Nice find!

Better pictures will help, but perhaps not even a VF from that photo.

For reference, here is a recent sale at about 120 GBP:

@mrv, you should also be familiar with the numista website for these things:

I agree yours isn't in great condition, but at least it is silver!

Thanks for the replies tdziemia and Spencer. I've hopefully attached better photos. I am really never sure how to grade coins, I do look on numista but they never seem to have a value for a lower grade.

Would this be a poor/ fair grade?

I do not think the grade is that low. For something like Fair, the rim would be worn down, no denticles would be showing, and all the detail on the eagle and the oak leaves would be worn flat. I would think more in the VG to F range, but a collector or dealer in German Empire coins (and I know we have some here on the forum) would be able to give a better answer.

Also, there appears to be damage on the side with the eagle? I see scrapes/abrasions on the rim, and maybe a couple on the face of the coin?

Given the scarcity of the coin, it is certainly worth many times more than the metal content. It looks like there is no "common " date for this short-lived (6 year) series, so there should be German type coin collectors looking for one at a modest price. Given the rough condition, I would think the value could be in the range of 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the one that sold at auction, but that is a guess.
