yes, it was, E&V... there were no notes to find last night, though.. the storm moved away overnight saturday into sunday and we're drying out after a soggy three-day rain event, I saw a rain gauge that had five or six inches of water in it on saturday, before it really came down in buckets.. i'll have to check it again today as I didn't have a minute to go look at it yesterday.. we received a lot of rain and the winds thrashed everything and made a moderate mess, nothing extreme.. I have some yard work to do... storm aside, back to 'normal'.. I picked just ninety-nine cents last night and most of those coins were roadrashed & cruddy; I should have taken a picture of them because it would have spoken directly to DiscoLover82's question re: coin quality.. easily, half-to-most of the coins I pick on most nights are junkers that I put back into circulation (when they get wrapped & carted to the bank), but I do 'retire' some coins if they're too badly damaged, cruddy, bent, dissolving or roadrashed beyond recognition.. when I empty my pocket at the end of the night I spread the coins across a flattened canvas bank bag for a look-over, my eyes detect anomalies: old coins, silver, world coins, etc.. I don't study everything too closely because most of it I have no interest in as a collector, with some exceptions (like W quarters- those are still neat to find- Statehood Quarters notorious for interesting doubled dies, etc).. my eyes tend to skip over everything quickly as most of it most of the time is cruddy.. I picked a 1951-D Wheat cent last night that was dirty & cruddy on the obverse and nearly destroyed (by roadrash) on the reverse; that one went into the tube, bound for circulation again sometime in the future.. some of the notes I find are deposited where I find them by wind, especially north wind, which we have coming again this week... so i'll be watching..

Pennies bright and tanners round, pounds that jingle, golden sound. Halfcrowns big and bright so new. Coins I find, a most joyful crew!
Peek in pockets, under seats. Check the couch, beneath the sheets. Every corner, nook, and cranny. Coins are hiding, waiting for me!
Shiny treasures, big and small. Fill my jar, stand small or tall. History held in tiny hand. Every coin, a story planned.

"I need a euro, I'm holding out for a euro until the end of the night..." (apologies to Bonnie Tyler) The physics building on campus has a little museum with various exhibits, one of them allowing you to put coins down a ramp and watch them go around in circles and fall into a pit in the middle; it's a gravity simulation and the pit in the middle is supposed to represent a black hole. Well, last week Sunday as I was grabbing coins from the compartment underneath the pit to put through this apparatus, I noticed this 75-year-old wheatie, so I took it. I found coins from two different foreign countries on consecutive days on Tuesday and Wednesday. I'll think of the Mexican 5 peso coin as a good luck charm for finals (Tuesday was the last day of regular classes for the semester, and my last final was Saturday) - just found it on the sidewalk as though it was the most normal thing in the world. More euros came my way this past Sunday night in the form of Coinstar rejects. The 5-cent piece was from a new country for me in terms of coin finds: Lithuania! Then this quarter from another new country (Cayman Islands!) the following evening, in the same room that's given me a lot of luck in the past: My second wheatie of the month came yesterday afternoon, just walking down the street, in pretty sad shape (road rash). It always makes me sad when I see old or collectible coins and they end up being in this kind of condition. Then this morning, I had a good stroke of birthday luck when I found a large pile of coins, mostly pennies, beside a parking meter. One of them was a 5 euro cent piece from Spain (seriously, what's with the euros lately?) and there were about 14 pennies and a dime in all. As I was picking up the coins, two of the pennies fell into the grates nearby. I was able to dig one of them out with a key, but the other ended up lying down on its front in there and I couldn't get at it anymore...grr. It wasn't a wheatie or anything special, but I'm still a bit miffed about that.

This somewhat counts as "found money". Back at the Millenium, my future ex-wife and I spent a month in the UK doing research. Our travels took us all over England, to Scotland, Ireland, and Jersey. I knew that I brought back a bag of change but had not seen it in over 20 years, and figured the ex snagged it. Well, lo and behold I was digging through a box of stuff and there it was! At least 50 coins and 2 tokens for the Tube (Underground) or something. Dumped them out and took a pic - will go through them tonight.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
