I am new to collecting after inheriting a few Morgans. I just found this site! I have started to buy and sell Morgan and Peace dollars and I came across a few Morgans at an antique store. Something about the 1890cc seems off to me. What is the best way for a newbie to spot a fake?

@FF, first welcome to CCF. Second, can you please confirm that you have checked to see if any are attracted to a magnet?

Not attracted to a magnet. The coin appears to have been coated with some sort of oil - giving it a metallic look instead of the normal patina of my other coins - I have about 100 of them. I'll back off on the lighting to see if I can get a better picture posted. Also - does the "cc" look off? Too fat?

You're right. The cc looks wrong.

How much does the coin weigh? Given the amount of wear, it is certainly a fake if it weighs under 26 grams.

Nice score if real. Weights of each one? Take to coin shop and let them check silver content? Something about the color has me wondering but could be the pics. Closeup of each coin under natural lighting, front/back.

The new pictures make me think it is real. The too perfect patina now looks like a coin cleaned LONG ago.

I'm not seeing any red flags so I think this one is genuine and as you mentioned once cleaned. Here's a photo of a genuine in about the same grade.
