Hello everyone, I noticed this fake dime today on ebay. Unfortunately it sold for $766, and I would ideally like to find a way to save the buyer a decent chunk of change. I have seen many counterfeits sell on ebay, and it is always upsetting to me. If you know this seller redshed please contact him and encourage him to refund the buyer, or whatever you see fit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1895-O-Barb...047675.l2557
Rest in Peace

Can you specify how you know it is a fake?

Wow scary stuff - what's the biggest tip-off here? Fake-looking patina? Denticles/date?

If I am the only one that can see this coin screams fake I'll be very surprised. This is one of the worst fakes I've seen in some time.

NumismaticExpert this is also an educational site. So how about sharing some of the reasons you believe this to be a fake? Throwing out your opinion with no reasoning behind why you claim this is coin is fake is not good form. I for one do not know much about this series, so instead of just tossing out "this coin screams fake" tell us why please.

I agree that it is counterfeit but will wait until
we see what NumismaticExpert has to say
before I point out the markers I see.

After seeing enough authentic examples over many years, I can usually spot fakes instantly. Overall this coin has a mushy look to it, from the lettering to the date, and the edges are too sharp. This coin sold recently enough, I am confident that the buyer may be on this forum or may know someone on this forum. They would certainly appreciate it if we manage to inform them of this. $766 is a lot of money for some people and I know I wouldn't want to be out that money.

Thanks for the comparison photos Bobby I agree now it is pretty clearly a fake - way too many wrong things coming together that scream fake to an experienced eye I suppose.

I can understand the point of view that we might not want to pick apart every wrong detail on close fakes, lest the forgers make accounts/pay attention to get feedback from the forum on how to perfect their craft.
