keith12-
You nailed two of the markers.
the end of the ribbons are different and there
is less space between the leaf and the "S"

There are more but I don't like giving too much away as
the counterfeiters also read this forum.

I think I'm seeing casting bubbles--the one standing out the most is the one in the field below the foot of the R in America

Sorry, half blind after studying these images, just don't see the evidence here of a counterfeit. I say legit.

I am even more convinced this is fake and here's why

After recalling that Barber dime obverses have either Type 1 hubs or Type 2 hubs.

Type 1 obverse hub was used 1892-1900. The easiest way to spot it is the leaf pointing at the "S" of States is rounded.

Type 2 obverse hub was used 1901-1916. The easiest way to spot it is the leaf pointing at the "S" of States is pointed.

Type 1 obverse hub: https://www.NGCcoin.com/coin-explor...coinid-14796

Type 2 obverse hub: https://www.NGCcoin.com/coin-explor...coinid-14824

So with this information, how can an 1895 New Orleans dime have a Type 2 obverse hub when said hub was introduced around 1901?

Simple: It CANNOT

Meadowview, now that is how you show something is counterfeit and teach us along the way! The amount of knowledge in this forum never ceases to amaze me...

MY last to cents on this coin, and all coins. If you are spending anywhere over 100.00 bucks on a coin, make sure its in a slab. I've have and I'm sure many others have learned the hard way

I hope this thread results in that individual getting their money back. At the very least, hopefully word gets around that the seller in question has sold a fake and probably has before/will again. PS if any of you get that buyer refunded and show me proof I will send you a free silver coin of my choosing.

Hello to everyone on this thread. I am the seller of this coin. I run a small antique shop and dabble in coins. I am, by no means, an expert. I have been an active seller at ebay for 20 years, with integrity and perfect feedback. I never intend to misrepresent an item or mislead a buyer. I have an appointment with a coin expert tomorrow, and will have this coin verified before ever proceeding with the sale. I'll let you all know what that expert says and have a discussion about it with the buyer before we move forward. I appreciate the forum user who contacted me to let me know there were questions about the validity of this coin. Rest assured, we have never and will never intentionally sell fake or counterfeit items.

Thanks Redshed, I look forward to your conclusion. All of this makes my head hurt, how is the average collector supposed to know or retain all of this?

I'm really glad you chimed in, Redshed. There are many eBay/coin dealers who are active on the CCF. We all learn from one another.

redshed - Thanks and I hope you'll keep us informed on how this progresses. I know I'm probably alone, but I'm not entirely persuaded by the evidence offered here that this is a fake.
