I've had this coin for a decade and not really thought much about it. Another modern proof coin and such. NGC lists the value at $80 (which we all know is inflated). I was getting ready to post it on ebay, and research showed a much different story with recent ebay sales of $390 and $440, albeit with original boxes. Numisbids seems to support a high price point as well.

Anyway, this warrants getting this thing authenticated. NGC lists it at 28.3 grams with no specified diameter, which checks out. However, Numista lists it as 18.4 grams and 38mm diameter. The diameter checks out, but weigtht does not (it has to be a typo on numista re weight).

Many of the images from searching on google I've seen show frosty devices, but a couple of them show an even appearance as seen on my coin.

So, I'm pretty surprised, since I've always considered price guides to be inflated. I'd like to be pretty certain that this coin is legit before considering getting it graded.

Any advice is appreciated.

Looks to be a well stuck coin from a real mint. Grading MS66 to me. I'd take off for spotting on rev. and hits on belly on Obv. Never seen this coin before but doesn't look at be a fake at all as it was to well made and not a popular coin either. So, no reason to fake it IMHO.

agree with above, very unlikely to be fake, even tho it is from that part of the world.

@Dorado
That is the same link that I included in the OP. They list it as 38mm and 18.4 grams, but I suspect the 18.4 is a typo, because that would be a very thin coin for its size. NGC lists it as 28.3 grams.

I found an auction for a slabbed one that was plain like mine and I did an NGC Certification Lookup, and it looks legit. No frosting on that graded coin.

Nice!

I agree that 18.4 g. is inconsistent with the diameter.

Only caution on your expectations is that I think the ebay and Heritage auction results were for the "Ultra-Cameo" (frosted) type? Was the result you found for your type up at the same price range?

It appears that the side with the date had some attempt to remove spots. This could affect the price.
