There are only reverse images (of two coins). Not obv. and rev. of one coin for comparison.
And a closeup of the thickness you are seeing might be helpful but I'm thinking these were struck with later die state dies.

Usually collar issues cause double rims.
Relatively common in my experience.

My first thought is it shows the potential signs or effect caused by the (early stage) dryer acclimation process.

Aka: Dryer Coin. Image of obverse may suggest something more. Thanks, Doug.

To me it looks like a tilted die issue. A tilted die will allow metal to flow upwards and make a fin. The fin flattens quickly and that is what I feel we are seeing on the reverse.

On your coin the fin is flattened as well as the edge and the devices. So I feel it was damaged. The only ones that will warrant a premium is the ones with the fin still showing upwards. But usually when they are put into rolls, the fin is usually flattened then or in circulation.

It's a 1993 D penny I am having a problam with the pic of front of opening getting it t9 load. I pooout the penny next to the doubk e rim to show how all the letters are shaped and date as well. It canr be a Dryer Coin because all the letters are shaped big and date as well.
