I see coins listed by the most reputable dealers describing coins as Eagle Eye Photoseal coins as if that somehow makes the coin more desirable. I understood from reading the PCGS site many months ago that you could pay more and get a picture of your coin.
Because I do not collect 1804 dollars, I could never see any reason to want a picture of my coin. Maybe it's an arguable protection against tampering, but that really seems like a stretch.
Is there anything to this new improved slab, or is it just more marketing?

It's not a special slab, but a sticker Rick Snow puts on coins he feels are properly graded. This allows the owner to sell back to him for a pre-determined price since it has already been examined. It is similar to a CAC.

Rick is a highly-regarded conservative grader, especially of Indian Head cents. His Eagle Eye seal is similar to a Green Bean.

Thanks, Jimbucks,
Is Rick Snow affiliated with PCGS or is he independent like CAC? I don't know my numismatic luminaries that well. Is Mr. Snow recognized as preeminently knowledgeable?

Wow, Coinfrog that's good to know. I thought CAC was essentially unique. I have never felt shortchanged paying a CAC premium, and it's great to know Rick is another source for finding PQ coins.

Rick is independent. He not only specializes in Indian Head cents but also Flying Eagles and has written books on them.

Yep, the "go to" source for FE and IHC varieties is Rick's book.
If you intend to get serious about those coins you'll need his book.
BUT
Last I heard the latest edition (hard cover) is $200.
I've got an older version (loose leaf) so I'm missing out on the newer discovered varieties.

Unless he has changed a photoseal coin should also come with a laminated photo of the front of the slab, back of the photo is a signed certificate. The slab photo is actual size. The photo acts in the same way as the photos on the NGC website, so you can the slabbed coin is the one it is supposed to be and not a fake seal put on some other slab.

Sounds like an advanced version of the certificate of authenticity that comes with baseball memorabilia.
Too bad stuff has to be like that, but there seems to be no way to underestimate human nature or deceit.

I've done a lot of business with Rick over the years, and he is a profoundly honest businessman in my opinion. That said, I don't always agree with his Eagle Eye seal, but then I don't always agree with CAC or anyone for that matter!

Thanks for the strong endorsement. It means a lot. I had not known about Rick before. Do you know if he limits himself to IHCs and FECs, or does he do other coins too? I am going to try to learn more about his services on the internet.

The elecktronic edition of the book is available for $75. I bought the hardcover through KickStarter when it came out and it's an amazing resource.

Rick sells a few other, special, coins, but his heart seems to be in small cents.

Agree, Rick has branched out into Lincolns, Conder tokens and the occasional high-end type coin over the last few years, but his rep is in FE/IHC.

He sells other items, but I believe he only photoseals FE and Indian Head cents. Which makes sense as that is the series he is considered to be an expert in.
