Coop, the part he points out on his coin, shows the mark at the second pillar over from Lincolns statue. Nothing in the overlay I see shows any clash at that point that would leave that mark ? Can you explain.
The clash lines are the outside areas of the deep devices. The outline of the bust and the outline of the Memorial. Sometimes on the obverse images you will see the outlines of the columns on that area. But the deeper devices do not touch. The center of the die is the first areas to make contact when the coins are struck. That gets the metal moving to form the strike up of the coin. The rims keep the metal contained near the die. The collar forms the outside edge so it will be rounded/add reeds if that is the case. So that is why you see just the outline area on a clash. Sometimes you will see the "TY". But unless it is a deep clash, the other devices don't show. (I do have images of a nickel in case some one want to see what happens on an extreme clash)
Well the upper line is inside the bay is the roof line. (normal) But that area may have been over polished a few times. Note how narrow the top of the column is. Probably an overlay might confirm that? Not a match for a missing column. The only other thing I can think of it is a counter clash from the obverse die from a previous clash and the obverse die rotated a bit. Not premium for this, but that is what I think it is. (Who knows who Kilroy is?)
