Finish looks unattractive. Perhaps cleaned? AU-50 if original. Tough date in high grade for sure!

I agree with the AU grade but the surfaces disturb. Either cleaned (dipped) or poorly stored -- or both.

I'll notch it up to AU-55 but agree that the surfaces look unnatural.  to the CCF!

This is one of those weird years/mints where the whole mintage seemed to have been released, circulated for a few weeks, then magically recalled and bagged back up and then went into storage for the next 100 years. It just seems like there are thousands upon thousands of AU 1884-S Morgan dollars out in Coinland. Yours is just another one of them!
