I may purchase this 1920 Mercury dine but the guy stated it was gold coated to preserve the coin. He also stated that it is double die and has a extra two lips on the obverse side of the coin.

Coins were never gold-plated to "preserve" them. This is just a damaged (plated, scratched) coin worth about $1.50 in melt value. Not a good investment. to the CCF!

Do not buy this coin . What does he think he's preserving ? That's a bad circulated Mercury dime . What Doubled die and two lips ? Tell that guy he has two lips for double talking you into buying his scam piece .

The seller either has a cents of humor or thinks you completely unaware of prices and coins.

Over a period of decades, the gold will fade. An interchange of gold with silver atoms happens at the metal interface between substrate and the plating.

to CCF. It's a damaged coin so melt value is all I'd pay for it.
