I have a 1992 D Penny in seriously good condition. I'm wondering what if this could possibly be a double die on top of the letters? The entire outer ring has this. Every letter has a matching top. Can anyone explain what is happening? Thank you!

Hello! That is not a DDR. That is DDD, or zinc rot. Not too sure which one-I am not an expert. Hope this helps. Happy hunting!

That is called split plating. During the strike this area was split through and the zinc gets air and starts to break down. Seen more of then on Memorial cents.

Ah, that's why it's so perfect on each letter all the way around. Thank you, I appreciate your help!
