Very nice score! I would not recommend spending any money on grading. It speaks for itself.

Damaged, so worth only melt value. But that is quite a bit!
It seems that gold coins are rarely found metal detecting, but gold rings are found regularly.

Nice find but I would take it to a coin shop or ( we buy gold )shop . There's a chance it might not be Gold . I came across something similar a few years ago and it turned out to be some other type of non precious metal . Don't send it in but let us know what you find out .

yes the coin does look like gold however often very hard to tell from picture not worth grading though, might still be fake does appear correct mint mark. Very nice find if real, really not something that one just drops and forgets about it.

Metal detecting, wow how nice.

Have you weighted it? Ordinarily it should be close to 7.9 grams, however with the wear on it, it may be a little less.

What is the mint mark on it?

1927 was a large production year however if it is from Melbourne it is rarer and possibly more valuable. Perth & South Africa did most of the production.

In spite of what the catalogues say, there are no known 1927-M sovereigns.
