Need help with the brass token below. It 27mm and 7g. It appears to have Arabic legends. Any detailed information about its country of origin, usage, age, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to be a Shi'ite Muslim religious token from Iran, honoring 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, caliph 656-661, the 4th successor of the Prophet Muhammad and a supremely important figure in Shia Islam. The piece is dated AH 1337 (AD 1919).

Thank you so much Kushanshah. I would have never been able to attribute this token without you. Just one question, your response indicates the token is from Iran, but the Coinquest link suggests Iraq. Any clarification is much appreciated. Thanks again!

It's not as simple as it sounds. Iraq was carved out of the old Ottoman Empire in 1920-1921. It's really a religious token with political undertones. After WW I map of the Middle East was being redrawn with little regard for ethnicity or Shia vs Sunni sentiment. The date 1337 is likely the key but ... ?

I would probably label it "Iran-Iraq, Shia Religious Medal". New versions are still being offered online but this one looks vintage to me.
