Identication Help With Middle Eastern Brass Token (Id: 1919 Shia Religious Medal)

Kushanshah Pillar of the Community United States 1554 Posts	Posted 12/30/2018 10:51 pm It seems to be a Shi'ite Muslim religious token from Iran, honoring 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, caliph 656-661, the 4th successor of the Prophet Muhammad and a supremely important figure in Shia Islam. Kushanshah Pillar of the Community United States 1554 Posts	Posted 12/31/2018 6:10 pm It's not as simple as it sounds. Iraq was carved out of the old Ottoman Empire in 1920-1921. It's really a religious token with political undertones. After WW I map of the Middle East was being redrawn with little regard for ethnicity or Shia vs Sunni sentiment. The date 1337 is likely the key but ... ? I would probably label it "Iran-Iraq, Shia Religious Medal". New versions are still being offered online but this one looks vintage to me.
