I have a 1978 quarter with a crack that caused the
letters to connect is this error and is it of value more than 25 cent? Thank you for your help.

The "crack" your talking about is a scratch in the coin, and the reason the letters are touching is because the die that stamped that coin was heavily used and worn. Not a mint error, and no added value. Remember, I'm not an expert so don't take my word for it. Happy New Year and Happy hunting!

That's just Post Strike Damage ( PSD), not a crack. Circulation flattening caused this to happen.
