That's a die chip. It is considered an error. A very minor one and doesn't bring a lot of extra value. Happy hunting and happy new year! -CH27

Should we mention that is not a Lincoln nickel and is not the Lincoln memorial.
I do agree that what your looking at are die chips.

The Monticello on the Jefferson nickel seems to exhibit die chip(s) to the West side of building. The East side, if raised maybe the same, but hard for me to tell in that image if that's the case. Thanks, Doug.

The die chip to the left of Monticello could be an unlisted Interior Die Break. It is in the same location as listed Interior Die Breaks for 2006-P and 2017-P nickels. You could submit photos to JC Stevens to see if the coin qualifies for a listing. That could increase the value of your find.

Quote: GR58- Huh? How is it not? Lol I'm confused. The coin in the picture posted is a Jefferson nickel. The Jefferson nickel has a portrait of Thomas Jefferson on the Obverse, not Abraham Lincoln. On the reverse of the Jefferson nickel is a picture of Monticello, which was Thomas Jefferson's house. The Lincoln Memorial is found on the reverse of cents minted from 1959 to 2008.

Die Chips are quite common on Nickels.
Errers and Varietys.
