I have two of these that are basically identical. Any ideas?

It looks heat-treated, to me.

to the Community! Whatever caused this, it didn't happen at the mint. There was a lot of heat involved with whatever caused it. Could please take a pic of the whole obverse? I would like to see the rim.

Well yes, but I think we're trying to figure out how this was done.

Is the area on the coat just under and left of date scarred or melted? If so I'm thinking it kind of resembles an old school fuse box work around.

Usually will see a contact point on both sides. One side will be close to center and the other side will typically be offset from center. Thanks, Doug.

adding: pending the circuit load, they usually appear more distorted.

I'd love to know what they did to these coins. I have a few of them.. Some that WERE. Key dates. I wish I could reverse this.

Sometimes they dip them in soap water and heat with a candle. It alters the color ruining the value to a collector.
