It's really up to you. What did you want to do with them?

Back when these first came out (the mini-bags of State Quarters) they were all the rage. I recall selling one of them from 1999 Delaware for $400 or so. Don't know what the current market is like on them, but I would keep unopened.

Check recent sale prices for UNOPENED bags on ebay. Remember to look at SOLD prices, not asking prices. Then decide if opening the bag is worth losing the premium of an unopened bag. FWIW: I would open them, but don't expect anything amazing. BTW: not too long ago I got a bag of half dollars from usmint.gov. Turns out that the US mint outsources the sales to a third-party in Memphis, TN. I was disappointed because (a) Memphis is father away from me than Philly so shipping took forever, and (b) there was zero chance of getting a major error coin in the bag.

Checked sold ebay listings, and it looks like they range from $30-$40 per bag. Maybe more. A 2 pack of a couple different quarter bags (two different states) sold for $74 I think. You could make some good money off of them if you keep them sealed. Happy hunting! -CH27

Quote:Checked sold ebay listings, and it looks like they range from $30-$40 per bag. The problem with that is that at $30 you're breaking even at best after the ebay fees, the PayPal fees, and the PayPal per transaction fee. Even if you charge for shipping ebay takes fees from there too and if you do free shipping you are definitely losing money for any sale under like $35. $40 is really the lowest to even consider and even at that price most people might not think it's worth it for a couple bucks extra when it's all said and done.

After inflation, for the VA you would have to get $57 after fees just to break even in real purchasing power terms.

I was using breaking even in the terms of trying to sell them instead of just spending them.

All you have to do is start a cable shopping network, set up a studio with lots of lights and couple chairs, put all your bags on a table, scream at the audience, tell us how rare they are because you said so, then mark them "down" to just $199.99 each. You'll sell out in minutes.
