What would you grade her? Is it worth sending in to TPG? I bought it for $500.00.

Technically I suppose it has VF-35 or EF-40 sharpness, but the dark surfaces suggest possible environmental damage.

I would. It's an important coin. I don't see any one area that screams ED but it's one of those death by 1,000 paper cut coins. Best bet for coins like this is NGC which might net it higher on technical grade merits.

My net grade without seeing it inhand would be vg-10 and a prayer it grades straight. I think a lot of that is dirt and crustiness. I definitely wouldn't try to monkey with the surfaces.

I keep staring at this one and I do see an area that is most likely ED on liberty's cap. Looks like something has eaten into a large portion of it. Can you confirm this?

Any chance of a close-up of that mottled blackish area in the left obverse field that extends down across from the left (facing) arm?

Reverse rims look filed. Rims all around look suspect. And Liberty's head misshaped. Toning could hide signs of a cast counterfeit. What is going on with the mintmark and "Half Dollar" looking polished. Is the date embossed at all? I'd get your money back.

Coin looks real albeit severely damaged, i'd start with environmental damage, and possibly tack on cleaned (due to what seems the high points and reverse rim), and scratched. I'd return this one.

Yes, That is what I thought when I first saw it.

Here are some close-ups of the areas you asked for. Do these help?

Thanks for all of the opinions and just what I thought. I will follow up here once I get it back from a TPG.
