I have purchased some PCGS slabbed coins from ebay that seem to me to be over rated. I am no grading expert for sure. But when I compare a raw coin I sent in and it got MS 65 with some of the MS 66 I get on ebay it really makes me scratch my head.

Should I send my MS 65 coins back in and hope for a better grade or is it just that over time the objectivity changes? I really don't want to waste the $ sending them back in if I will just get the same results.

I have seen numerous slabs that the coins do not techniquely match the grade , this is especially true of PCGS when I check their criteria in their grading guide against the coins found in their slabs .

This is one of the reason why it is so important to buy the coin not the slab .And the reason why I collect Raw coins ,,I refuse to pay for the plastic grade and someone elses opinion .

The ones that irritate me the most are the Key dates that are obviously market graded in the slabs and elevated by 1 and sometimes 2 or more points .

metalman. I have seen in Coin World dealers that have a key date coin in a PCGS holder that has an identical grade but is $100-$200 more. The NGC coin just below it in the add, is $100-$200 less! Both are for the sake of conversation, AG03 1916-D Mercs.
