Good morning all. I know very little about Ameican coins but I have come accross a this 1970 cent. Can anybody tell me if it is a small date cent and what it is worth in this pretty bad condition.
Thanks,Harold

Is there any way you can get a closer picture? Both of the date and liberty?

This link has always been helpful:

The 7 is the key to the dates. A large date has the 7 lower than the top ot the 9 and 0. The small date has the 7 almost completely level with the other numbers. Either one would have to be in a MS grade to be worth anything monitarily. However, the one you have is just another fairly decent coin but not the valuable one.
And as to the PCGS price guide, remember that it is one of the highest prices on coins and not really what they are worth.

It's easiest to see when the date and LIBERTY are horizontal, but the 9 in the date here is clearly the LD style.

Thank you all for the lessons.

I am still a bit confused. The Liberty is very weak (compared to other cents that I have)

There does not seem to be the crease on the seven pointing towards a small date, and yet the other pointers such as the lower seven and the nine would indicate a large date.

I will of course bow to your greater knowledge.

Once again thanks

Harold

I've seen some SD with stronger LIBERTY than LD. It depends on the strike and die state.
Sometimes the crease of the 7 is worn off, so I went by the 9 in this case.
