I refreshed the vcoins newly posted items page and this one popped up a few minutes ago, so I bought it. This one is my third Otho denarius. This one will join my 12 Caesars collection. I know it has condition problems, but I will happily allow a worn coin into my collection. Otho. AD 69. AR Denarius Rome mint. Obv: Bare head right IMP M OTHO CAESAR AVG TR P Rev: Pax standing left, holding olive branch and caduceus. PAX ORBIS TERRARVM RIC I 4; RSC 3. Good Fine. toned

Worn yes, but it is a decent clear portrait.

This thread gave me an idea for sharing our first purchases of the new year, so instead of posting another thread, here's my first coin purchase of 2019. (Hope you don't mind the thread hijacking Orfew) Pertinax AR Denarius. Rome, AD 193. IMP CAES P HE[LV] PERTIN AVG, laureate head right / [OPI D]IVIN TR P COS II, Ops seated left, holding two grain ears in right hand, resting left on seat of chair. RIC 8a; RSC 33; BMCRE 19-20. 2.73g, 17mm, 6h. Near Very Fine. From a private UK collection. This guy is tough but at <$200 I couldn't resist. I'm enamored with the Severans and this guy played a very big role in the demise of Commodus and their rise, so I'm glad to add him to my collection.

I think it's a strong portrait and a lovely addition. I always thought could it be Mussolini's great great great great .... grandfather?

Nice addition all. I started 2019 with a Nero and Claudius coin from Michel Prieur collection.

Congrats @jskirwin on the Pertinax. It is a very nice example. (Also, I think posting first purchases of 2019 here is a great idea).

Quote: I think posting first purchases of 2019 here is a great idea Sounds good. My first purchase of the year is not a coin but, rather, a dagger from Luristan. It's en route - dealer pics below. Dagger, Luristan c. 1200 - 800 BC bronze, 33cm (13") Cf. Mahboubian, Art of Ancient Iran, #379; Cf. Overlaet "Luristan Exacavation Documents Vol. IV," PK.3-10, p. 216

Not as exotic as the last few objects ... Polgrosz (1/2 groschen) 1522 from Poland-Lithuania. (No, I didn't wait this long into January. I received it two weeks ago with the Ferrara grossetto posted on its own thread)

I've already posted my first* 2019 purchase on CCF, but the thread hadn't received any comments, and it didn't help that I don't know what it is - though I can't exactly say that I have no idea... ...now that I think of it, I'm not even sure it's real. It may be a cast fake. I bought it as a probable 15th century Russian copper pulo, but actually this reverse isn't known to show up on 15th century Russian copper but is consistent with 15th century Russian silver. The coin is clearly copper, however. On silver dengas, the reverse type occurs with a large variety of obverses; this coin's obverse is probably too far gone to be certain. The size is 15x12 mm, about right for a denga. The weight is 1.52 grams, far too heavy for a denga; not sure how close it would be for a pulo. I have another medieval (...I think) coin that I bought later the same day; would probably post it eventually. *) well, technically, second; but I'm not counting the batch of banknotes (and one 20th century coin) I bought from a different seller a few minutes earlier
