I just aquired this gold bar (my first one!) and can't seem to find much info on it. It seems to have a low serial number. Is it worth any more than the oz of gold? It is JM serial number 2884 and sais the trojan bar 1979 on the back.

That is a Johnson Matthey gold bullion bar.
Most of them are only worth the price of the gold.

Also to the CCF

Thanks! I got excited when I saw someone list it as ultra rare on ebay.

The reverse might be "rare" as it looks like it was
made for some occasion but it is still a bullion bar.
There are many bullion bars produced with different
designs (even ebay has one with their logo on it) but
it does not increase the value.
There might be someone out there for whatever reason that
would pay a premium for it if that trojan horse meant
something to them.

Thanks!

I am just getting into precious metals so have lots to learn. I am mainly in it for wealth preservation. Hopefully! Is there any products that go up in value after a few years? Like I could buy a bunch this year then sell in a few years that would get me a premium so I could add to my collection in Oz? If I'm making sense!

Be careful buying gold bars on ebay, or any gold or silver on ebay really. Lots of fake stuff.
