This is a metal detector find not made by me, but the person who found it said somebody told him it was a Greek coin from 300 AD.

I'm suspicious that that might not be the case. What do you think.

Materially it looks modern to me - that hole at the top appears to have been drilled, while ancient holes are punctures.

Might be a bronze copy of a didrachm of Rhodes.

Maybe contemporary? Perhaps it originally had a silver wash, something like bronze antoninianii of late 3rd Century Roman Empire.

The OP's coin may have long since lost all of it's silver wash.



The other possibility is that is a bronze copy (fake?) of the original silver Rhodian didrachm

The plugged hole came much later; it may have been used for jewelry.
