The obverses of these SMS 1964 coins were VEDS (Very-Early-Die-State) coins from being struck with new dies.

The die scratch pattern on them would all match to these images. (probably less than 100 coins were struck with these die)

Note the die scratches on these images. If it is one of the 1964 SMS cents, it will have an exact match of these die scratches. If it is not exactly like this coin, then it is not a SMS cent.
