Hello. I just picked this morgan up, wondering what you thought on the grade. I hope I did not over pay on it... it starts jumping pretty heavily in the AU+ range.

Hi, I am certainly no pro on Morgans, but the hair detail and the wing feathers look almost to sharp. I hope someone has not "tooled" this coin to improve the grade. Morgan folks,Please tell me I'm way off base on this! Mike

Mike, I think that's a function of the scan, an optical variance. I'd call the coin XF40, maybe 45, depending on who grades it and which day. Heritage's records show virtually identical coins anywhere from XF40-AU50.

If I were slabbing it, the slab would say XF45. $80-ish on Heritage, slightly less on ebay, from recent sales records.

I'm SuperDave on this one - EF45. Just a little too much wear on the breast to eek out an AU grade.
Rest in Peace

I concur with Susan's assessment, but would go only to XF-40 due to all the hits on Liberty's cheeks, on the obverse field, and on the reverse rim. This coin has been circulated too much for an AU designation. I'm a little surprised Liberty's hair doesn't show more wear, but this can be explained if it was originally a very sharp strike.
