Hey all,
Came across this coin and it is a little different then most I have seen. I have proofs with little or barely frosting on the entire rev or obv, but this is the first time I saw just one word without the frosting. Normally the whole side of the coin is affected, especially near the end of the die life expectancy, very interesting. any thoughts?

Interesting. A little silver paint and a steady hand might take care of that.

Wow this is really cool, not sure if it is worth a premium as an error. I'm not sure how this would occur at the mint, but I can guess how someone might be able to do this at home to alter a coin

Do it is not a cameo. All devices need to be frosted that should be on them. I wonder is someone tried to fix an issue with the coin, then spent it when he ruined it. Impaired proof now.

Thanks for the inputs... But what to do or say about it? it doesn't appear to be altered at all, don't think I can get much closer with the microscope. any suggestions or pics you need to see? I'm perplexed about this coin...

It is just a proof quarter. Not a cameo proof quarter. If you had an earlier proof coin (Before all the dies were continued to be frosted) with a cameo with just on one side, and you had it graded, because one side didn't have a cameo, it would just be a proof coin. They don't grade partial cameos. Either it is a full cameo, or is isn't.

Thanks coop, I understand that.. I got this from an auction with a bunch other coins. it had proof cam on the 2x2, since both sides are mirror like I thought the labeling was correct. just noticed the WE when I was cataloging it!

Note on the area we are talking about. Note the roughness on those devices? They probably tried to fix the coin and it probably would have been better if they had left it alone. I bought a coin that was marked Light cameo on obverse. At that time didn't realize what I do now. When I asked on ebay chat a long time ago I was told the bad news. So what did I do with it? I kept it. If I buy something that I was told incorrectly about, I save it as a reminder not to do that again.
