Hi,

Is this an error or counterfeit:

Can you provide an obverse picture? The first reverse picture you have could be an 1801 and probable a typo. The second image is of an 1810.

Hopefully, there is a link on my initial post of this thread that will take you to the grading forum where both sides of this same coin are posted.

Please let me know if you are successful in finding that link.

I didn't see that link earlier, sorry. Where do you see this coin? on the Bay, LCS or do you own it? If it is for sale then the seller probably has the wrong image for the reverse, if it is your coin then it is probably a fake/counterfeit coin.

Fake or altered, obv of 1810 rev of 1805 S268, 269 or 1806 S-270 (all same rev) No way they would be using that rev 4 years later.

The link provided is correct. Many of us, including me, gave a quick grade to these apparently mismatched pics. I doubt there was any intent to deceive here.

No, but I personally took blurry pictures of it under less than ideal circumstances. I have no history on the coin at this point.

Now we're back in business.

One of the photos was accidentally deleted and I failed to notice the difference when I grabbed a reverse from another older coin.

Now I'll never forget that from 1796 - 1807 the mint made 'three' distinct reverse designs:

1) the reverse of a 1797 for certain coins for 12 years from 1796 - 1807 &

2) the reverse of a 1795 on some coins for only 4 years: 1795 - 1798 & finally

3) the reverse of a 1794 on chosen coins for just 3 years, 1794 - 1796

The 'wrong' reverse that we saw was actually the 'reverse of a 1797' since it is the only design of the above three to have just 'one' leaf layout option:

16 leaves on the left and 19 leaves on the right.

...just a little trivia for LC aficionados.
