Sometimes it is where the coin was kept. Where the coin dipped into. Sometimes People heat them. Sometimes the area where it spent a lot of time can alter the planchet. (East coast area had more sulfur in the air and can turn coin yellow in color) So it is not an issue with the planchet, but life put it through. Also there is a lot of Machine Doubling on the the devices. Looks like it has been every where already. Casinos use to put a lot of mileage on quarters years ago. But if you like the color keep it. But other wise it is spendable. Its up to you.

Actually it is damage on the top of the devices that get pushed around a bit. On the LIBERTY area images you can see the Machine Doubling. So on the States/ATB quarters on the obverses, do you know where most of the doubled die are listed? On the earlobe areas.

I see no listing yet on the Maryland Quarters. But look at the other states to see where the doubled dies are located. The center part of the designs are the locations for these quarters 99% of the time. So look at the ear areas and the center areas of the reverses. Seeing where to look, will save you a lot of time on these States quarters and the ATB Quarters.
