I have these two 1913 D's and want to make sure what I'm looking at. Am I correct on the type 1 and 2 and what is the value in this kind of shape.

Thanks

The reverse descriptions looks correct to me.

But I do not see that the Type-II reverse has a 1913 dated obverse (I cannot see a date)?

Unless the obverse pictured is actually the type I which would confirm a 1913 date, even if worn down.

Nevermind, the 2x2 is the same for the obverse and the type II reverse.

I blew it up on 200x on my TV and can see 1913 on the TYPE II. I dont have my camera until tomarrow. I know there not in the best of shape but I see alot in the earler years that they give better rateing too.

Is that paint on the type 1? I would give it a short soak in some acetone and see if I could get any of it off. The type 2, is pretty darn beat up, I can't believe that you can get a date off of that. Though I the reverse does date it. I would say AG. Value? That just depends on what someone will give you for it I guess. I don't know.
Rest in Peace

I sometimes get no date buffalos when roll searching nickels. I have several now that are type 1. I don't know the value. I just put them back. If you look over no date nickels you can sometimes find these.

What do you look for to differentiate between the two types? Looks like United States is farther from the rim on the type 2?

Type I has raised mound where "five cents" is located. Type II does not. I think they are both 1913 dates, the type II being an AG at best and probably only worth about $5-10. The type I has 3/4 horn and so it should grade F-VF if it were not for the dark material on it.

To expand on this, look at how there appears to be a "line" above "FIVE CENTS" on the Type II, whereas on the Type I, the top of the mound covers and appears to curve down the sides of the "FIVE CENTS".

Not sure what your using for taking those photos but they really need a better lighting. Very difficult to see what they reall are. If they are as worn as they appear, I wouldn't worry about any great value.
