Time sure flies when yer havin fun... I have a stack of coins to post from the last month that is getting bigger all the time, but for now I have time for just a couple things.

This coin came in a couple months ago , and today a regular customer that expressed interest then, asked about it. After searching through a couple hundred tubed halves on the desk, it was found and now the time to figure a price for such a thing comes into play. I was asked to do a little research into the counter- stamping of this coin, so I am going to bring it here first, and then try to find info on the web.

Thanks in advance for taking a look, and any help you might be able to give. The owner of the shop seems to feel that the stamp was done in the period near the date of mintage of the coin, and I agree - but I have NO expertise in this area, just the look of it to me I guess. There was no mention of " L.S. PUGH " in his counter-stamp book, but it is nearly thirty years old... Anyone seen this before, or heard of a business by that name ?

Here are a couple pics, the coin is in the VF/XF range, sorry the pics are not better. You can see the stamp on the obverse.

I only have time to get one more up here tonight, check the main forum for a thread titled "You Should Know About This Product"

Thanks again for looking...

EDIT: Well, that was relatively easy as far as searches go. I only got a few hits, one was for a counter-stamp book by Brunk. There is an alphabetical listing of all the attributed counter-stamps in the book for free , but to get more info and a price guide you gotta buy the book- $82.95. But the name is listed and that's good enough for me right now You learn something new every day !

So far I have found the mark....all I can determine thus far is that it is on at least two known coins. That doesn't mean only two....That was just what was required before a countermark would be listed.

I'll see if I can get any info on who it is but that might take a little time.

Thanks Bill, I appreciate the help. The shop owner has a special box of stuff he saves this kind of stuff in, but was not aware of this one until it almost walked out the door as a damaged coin. Since the book at the shop is out of date, I have been told to acquire the Brunk book for the shop , so now the rest of the coins can be attributed also. Thanks for taking a look.

The reason it looked familiar finally struck me. I once had a Seated Liberty quarter with a smaller version of that mark on it.

I guess it was about 20 years ago that I sold it.

The name is on the list at exonumia.com. Seems to imply that there is more info in the Brunk book.
