Looked at a couple Barber dimes with the microscope the other day, for fun. Entertainment value only.

I had noticed that the upper loop of the S in STATES looked joined together. Turns out it's two little horns coming from above and below. Also pretty clearly micro-doubled, particularly in the tail. (1900-S)

Of course, it's on the rest of them pre-1901 too, but in 1901 Barber seems to have shaved it off along with the other Obverse 2 changes. 1900-O on the left with horns, 1901-P on the right without.

I also noticed the abraded upper right of E in AMERICA. Doubled? Tripled?

Surprise! 1901-P (left) through 1904-S (right) and probably beyond, still have it. I was kind of expecting Barber to fix this too. If you look closely at the other two E's, in United States, the upper right is really square, but the one in America looks rounded because of this.

First high magnification images that I recall seeing that are clear, not pixelated.
Nice imaging device attached to your microscope.
What are you using?

Actually kanga the black & white pictures are with a cellphone camera through the eyepiece, which is a royal pain. I take a bunch of pictures until I randomly get one that's clear. The color images are just zooms from PCGS images. I do have a digital camera eyepiece but it's fixed on something like 120x which is way too strong for coins. I can probably find one that's more flexible but I'm lazy.

just carl - yup, coins from this era are full of stuff like this. Some of it like the E above once you find it with a microscope you can see that it's there with a loupe.
