I'm in need of the 1857 to complete the set. Can be either large or small date. Does anyone know of the best place to obtain one? I know ebay has loads of them, I'm specifically looking for a graded version AU-50 through AU-58. Would consider MS examples but that's very price prohibitive for me. I'd love to hear from others who look at online sites..

My first thought was David Lawrence -- they have one on their site, but they also list their Buy Now items on ebay at a discount, so you've probably seen it. I'd also point to The Reeded Edge, but their inventory is also on ebay (though they have the same prices on their own site as on ebay, so if you want one from them, wait for an ebay Bucks promotion). There's an AU58 for auction at Great Collections ending on Sunday. There's a buyers premium on that site, so take that into consideration in your bidding. Heritage would be the other place I'd look but the user interface on their site can be daunting, their auctions often have a live component which can affect your strategy, and they have a 20% buyers premium. Here's the one at GC: https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...-58-BN-Toned

They are around if you have the scoots - around 200-300 dollars for a nice example

Be aware that depending on what state you live in, you may also get hit with sales tax in addition to buyer's premium on auction sites, so beware. I used to be sure to buy at least the minimum of $1500 at heritage auctions to avoid this, but now don't bother to participate since I don't have the budget I used to. If you have time to shop around, a large cent specialist once told me that the 1857 small date is much scarcer than the large date and the price difference does not represent the relative rarity.

I was thinking HA, but there are other sellers as has been noted.

I'd wait for an ebay bucks 10% coupon, and pounce.

I would like to humbly recommend Kevin Vinton (IndeEtLib), Shawn Yancey (EarlyCopperCoins) and Lucas Baldridge (FriscoMint1793) for ebay sellers, eminently respectable and highly reputable/knowledgeable. No, I'm not a paid shill, just a discerning customer.
