Hello everyone, this post is just to inform you about the tokens you can strike in person at the mint. As usual, there is little information out there and it is easy to miss one. This weekend, you can strike one in Ottawa's Byward Market for Winterlude. It started Friday and is going on today as well 10h-16h. I don't know if it is also happening in Vancouver and Winnipeg, but the token mentions no city, so if it is, it's presumably the exact same token. They are also giving away free passes to visit the mint, valid until April, so that's a nice bonus.
The Facebook page of the mint mentions a limit of 1 per person, but a friend went yesterday with his kids and was arbitrarily limited to 1 per family, so if you bring someone with you, split and pretend you don't know each other.

The Facebook page of the mint also mentions the next event, strike your own token for the Chinese new year. It seems to be happening only one day for each city and is weirdly happening on a Thursday for Vancouver. Dates are feb. 7th for Vancouver and feb.9th for Ottawa and Winnipeg. I'll try to grab a few from Ottawa to trade for Vancouver and Winnipeg ones, so if you want to trade let me know.

There will be one most likely for Canada day as well and I'm sure it'll be as much a headache as previous years to get. I don't know for sure if there will be other events this year, if you have info post it here!

Not weird at all because the Mint Store in Vancouver closed a couple of years ago. They now do the Strike the Token at the Main Post Office which is closed on Saturday. Hence Thursday.

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. As a reminder to interested Vancouverites, it's happening today.

Back from the Vancouver Strike. The token has Vancouver stamped on it.

Thanks for the confirmation, in this particular instance I was referring to the winterlude token, it doesn't mention "Ottawa" on it.
