Years ago I embarked on an attempt to assemble a limited US gold type set. Everything was purchased raw. Gasp! Right? I just did my research and from there, did the best I could. I recently summoned the courage to learn the truth and submitted these for grading. How do you think they came back? I'll update tomorrow.

Pics don't reveal much about the surfaces other than extensive wear. As shown -- VG-08, F-12 and F-12 if genuine (just guesses, little experience here).

First, all genuine and all should turn a profit when it's time to sell. Yes I did research, but there was an element of luck in play as well. Went to ANACS, since authenticity determinations and varieties on the $3 pieces were the objectives.

1856-S $3 Gold_1: VG 10, Small S (mintage estimate at ~5000). Right in the area I was expecting. My favorite coin of the bunch. I will sorely miss being able to hold this one in hand as heavily circulated $3 pieces have a great feel and distinct size.

1836 $5: VF 35. A surprise and a stretch, IMO, but not crazy off others I've seen in other holders. If it's 10-20 points lower in another holder, I don't care. It's a genuine Classic $5.

1856-S $3 Gold_2 - Also a small S, VF 25, cleaned, scratched. Overall, a pretty fair grade, if a bit high, but a no brainer in retrospect given the price. It will make a great type piece for somebody when it's soon time to sell. I never did get around to having it live alone in a pocket of my work jeans for a couple years.

Thanks for taking a look.

C'mon, I know you are holding back on us, show us your Stella collection! Anyway, thanks for posting, those $3 golds can be elusive.
