Can anyone help me determine if this 1796 draped bust that I found in a small village in India is real?

I assumed it was, but can you educate me on how you know?

If I remember correctly the 1795 had a off-center bust version (top of head under B) and a centered bust version (top of hair under E). In 1796 they only made the centered bust version.
The subject coin has the off-center bust.
How much did you pay?

Didn't buy it yet. They wanted about $80 for it. Here is a picture of the back.

I don't know the diagnostics, but the strike quality and preservation look too good to be true.

$80 for a $1000-10000 coin is all I need to know.

Counterfeit. Among other things, that reverse rim makes it obvious it is a fake. These sell for $4 or $5 in China.

Here's one I found in Virginia City for about the same price. They're everywhere, and always in places where you'd never find a real one.
