Is that correct ? I've found 3 of the same date and mint mark, all toned about the same. Dan Report this Post to the Staff

It's not plated but some think it's toning, I think they have too much zinc in the mixture making them brighter yellow than copper colored. Report this Post to the Staff

Morganhuls, I think toning would include any environmental condition also, I'm not sure. They sure are pretty though. spru Bedrock of the Community United States 12477 Posts	Posted 02/07/2019 02:35 am I don't think it is toning, but rather what Jim mentioned about too much zinc. The alloy is different. Not so much so that it would command a premium, but enough to change the color a bit. The "brass cents" you heard of, I believe, were confined to the later years of WWII and immediately following (1944 rings a bell for some reason?). I understand that spent brass shell casings were being used to make cents. I haven't dug into that in any detail, though.
